Signs - Short film by Patrick Hughes

We have many examples of similarities between dialogue, characters, theme, music ect. In many cases, even the cinematography is similar. Here are two shorts SIGNS and THE DESK. Try to pick the similarities and differences between both. How would you have changed or adapted to fit a context that you want to create? What do you think is the integral message in both?
